Watford Water Polo U13′s Crowned London League Champions

The team went into the final round of matches having won their opening six games & trailed league leaders Croydon by one point but critically had a game in hand over the Surrey side.

The first of Watford’s four matches was against East Region rivals Chelmsford & in a tense first half Chelmsford scored first and held the lead for over two minutes, Watford goalie Eric Serghi was a real hero as he pulled off some incredible saves to keep his side in the game before Arish Patel pulled his side level at 1-1 and with 18 seconds before half time, Watford snatch the lead at 2-1 via a strike from Tamash Pandey.

The second half saw Watford extended their lead to 4-1 via goals from Bryce Myburgh & Patel. Chelmsford pulled one back late on but it was too little too late & the winning run continued.

Before the team played again Croydon played their first match and lost 3-4 to WL Penguins a key result for Watford as they hunted down the title.

Next up were the Penguins & a first half dominance the team took a three goal lead via a brace from Patel & a goal from Alex Chambers but with only 4 seconds until HT Penguins scored for a 3-1 scoreline.

The second half saw another double from Patel to move his side 5-1 up but with 16 seconds left Penguins scored their second for a 5-2 result.

The team’s third game of the day was against Croydon & a win for our team would seal the Championship. A goal mid-way through the half from Patel & a strike from Myburgh with two minutes remaining gave the team a 2-0 lead again Eric in goal frustrated the Croydon attack, as time & again his fine saves kept the Surrey side from scoring in the first half.

Into the second half & Watford’s Sabrina Radzik extended the lead to 3-0. With time running out Croydon scored a consultation goal but it was too late & the game ended 3-1 to Watford & with it the title for 2017.

The final game of the season was against local rivals Ealing and the team now wanted that 100% record to go with the title. The team scored three unanswered goals early on via a double from Radzik and another from Patel. Ealing pulled one back shortly after before Patel & Dusan Crompton scored further Watford goals for a 5-1 lead. With 7 seconds remaining in the half Ealing got their second for 5-2.

Into the second half and Radik hit a brace & Parsa Zamani scored for a 8-2 lead. Ealing scored again for 8-3 but it was that man Patel who scored the final goal of the season for a 9-3 victory.

Champions & well deserved every team member played their part even young Ilija Crompton who got in for a few minutes and was unfazed by playing against players much older then him.
